Eddie Dean Savage, 80, of Hamburg, entered heaven's portals Saturday, January 25, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Savage was born May 23, 1944 in Sumpter, the 10th of 12 children born to Joe and Sallie Durey Savage. He attended Fountain Hill School until the 10th grade when he quit school to go to work and help support his family. Mr. Savage proudly obtained his G.E.D. later in his life. He was a member of the Fountain Hill Methodist Church, where over the years, he served in many different ways as a handy man, Sunday School Teacher, Pastor during a difficult time and would generally oversee keeping everything up and going. He proudly served his country as a member of the Arkansas National Guard and received an honorable discharge after six years of service. Mr. Savage worked for several different construction companies where his natural abilities served him and his employers well over the years. Being a "Jack of all trades and master of none" did not apply to Mr. Savage. There was nothing he put his hand to that he didn't master as a carpenter, wood worker, electrician, well driller and a welder. He was the one you would call when something needed to be done. There was only one thing that Mr. Savage did not know how to do and that was to say "No" to anyone who needed or asked for his help.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Susan King Streeter Savage; a daughter, Loretta Kim Hall; his parents, Joe and Sallie Durey Savage; six brothers, J.C. Savage, Boyd "Dick" Savage, Lyance "Bo" Savage, Lawrence Savage, Orrell Savage and Jerry Don Savage and three sisters, Vada Moses, Elroy Kirkland and Nancy Shaver.
He is survived by three sons, Eddie Dean "Buddy" Savage, Jr., Jerry DeWayne Savage and Richard Carlton Savage and wife, Amy, all of Hamburg; two daughters, Tonya Savage Smith and husband, Brett, of Crossett and Cody Jo Runyan of Alexander, Louisiana; two sisters, Jackie Brooks and Chyrl Slocum and husband, Eugene, all of Fountain Hill; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews and others he considered family.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Monday, January 27, 2025, at the Fountain Hill Methodist Church with Bro. Dickie Savage and Lawrence Booker officiating. Burial will be in the Flat Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jim Hudson, Doug Hudson, Larry Hudson, Tim Chavis, Allen Chavis and Kevin Dale Chavis.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday in the funeral home chapel.
