Dorotha Ellen Hollis, 90, of Fountain Hill, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at the Nightingale at Crossett Nursing Facility. Mrs. Hollis was born September 15, 1934, in Crossett, was a lifelong resident of Ashley County and a 1952 graduate of Hamburg High School. She had a passion for cooking and had worked at several restaurants, but the job she truly enjoyed was at the Fountain Hill School cooking for all the children until she retired as the Cafeteria Manager in 2007. Mrs. Hollis was a faithful Christian and attended Eden Baptist Church where she had many friends that she loved and always enjoyed gatherings with her church family. She also enjoyed gardening and quilting. Mrs. Hollis genuinely loved her family and looked forward to family gatherings and cooking for whom ever was at her home.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, J.D. Hollis in 2011; a son-in-law, Ricky Amos; her parents, Clinton and Bessie Miles Dahling and a brother, Larry Dahling.
She is survived by three daughters, Rebecca Amos of Monticello, Kathy Amos Swan and husband, Alan, and Cindy Stahley and husband, Alex, all of Fountain Hill; a son, Terry Hollis of Longview; a sister, Donnie Craig of Bakersfield, California; six grandsons, Jeff Amos and wife, Paula, Adam Amos, Shane Amos and wife, Katie, Josh Hollis and wife, Kayla, Chris Hollis and Steven Hollis; a special granddaughter, Ellen White, that spent many days helping to care for her Nana and seven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to say a special "Thank You" to Nightingale of Crossett Nursing Facility for all of the care and attention Mrs. Hollis received by the loving Nurses, Certified Nurses Assistants and Staff.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Eden Baptist Church with Bro. J.W. Dobbins officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jeff Amos, Adam Amos, Shane Amos, Chris Hollis, Josh Hollis and Steven Hollis.
Visitation will be 1 - 2 p.m., Friday at the church.
