Doris Nelms Selby, 96, of Montrose, died Saturday, April 11, 2020. Mrs. Selby was a lifelong resident of Montrose, a homemaker and she taught school in Portland. Mrs. Selby was a very active member of the Montrose Baptist Church, where she served as a choir director and church organist and taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible school. She loved spending time outdoors working in her garden.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, R.D. Selby in 2016; a son, Robert Daniel Selby in 2001; three grandsons, Thomas Marion Bostick, Jonathan “Jody” Moreau and Neal Selby; a great-grandson, Cory Dane Selby; her parents, Benjamin Franklin and Cora Frances Higginbotham Nelms; two brothers, Billy Nelms and Raymond Benjamin Nelms and two sisters, Bertie Smith and Laurie Bawcom.
She is survived by a son, Jerry Selby and wife, Billie, of Portland; two daughters, Nina Pamplin and husband, Chuck Livingston, of Monticello and Patricia Kelley and husband, Don, of Bossier City, Louisiana; a brother, Clarence Nelms and wife, Ednadean, of Stuttgart; a sister, Christine Ingle of Monticello; 10 grandchildren, Lissa Smith, Chris Selby, Suzanne Singleton, Phil Selby, Ted Selby, Tracy Tucker, Eric Selby, Richalle Ney, Renee Clardy and Dorissa Kaufman; 25 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Private graveside services are 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 14, 2020, in the Snyder Cemetery with Bro. Larry Donaldson officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, Ted Selby, Eric Selby, Chris Selby, and Phil Selby.
