Debra Lynn Whittington Obituary

The family of Debra Lynn Whittington, 70, of Hamburg, is saddened to announce her passing on Saturday, April 19, 2025, following a brave battle with cancer, our beloved wife, Momma, Memaw, sister, aunt, and friend, passed peacefully at her residence. Born on November 23, 1954, in Dermott, “Debbie” was the oldest daughter to William “Bill” and Jo Ann Chapman. She was a woman of quick wit, great sense of humor, and a real “straight shooter”. Her infectious personality lead her to wear many professional hats within different communities. As a people person, Debbie enjoyed working at places that allowed her to use her people skills, such as restaurants, banks, stores, schools, etc. She touched the hearts and “giggle boxes” of many that knew her. Of all the hats she wore, her “Momma” and  “Memaw” hats were her favorites. She spent 49 years of her life as a devoted mother, and 18 years as a fun, and loving, grandmother.  Debbie spent her last days surrounded by those who loved and adored her most. She will be remembered, by all who loved her, for her unfailing love, generosity, and unique personality.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William “Bill” and Jo Ann Chapman; her baby sister, Joyce Chapman; maternal grandparents, Mattie Jones and Elijah Burgess; paternal grandparents, James and Sara Carpenter; father-in-law, Troy Whittington Sr., sister-in-law, Carol Whittington, along with a host of aunts and uncles.

She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 29 years, Troy Whittington of Hamburg; her four children, Shane Pruitt (Andrea) of Monticello; Brad Whittington (Jennifer) of Mayflower; April Pruitt of Little Rock; and Sara Murphy (Michael) of Hamburg; her precious mother-in-law, Barbara Whittington; a loving sister, Mindy Sheffield of Collins; another sister, Frances Huff of Louisiana; two brothers, George Carpenter (Betty) of Star City, and Marty Chapman of Louisiana; seven grandchildren, Riley, Aneston, Avy, Chloe, Mason, Avery, and Zoey; a treasured aunt, Joyce Jones, of Newport; an uncle, Terry Carpenter; and an aunt, Betty Chloe Jones (Ronnie), all of Lake Village; her sisters-in-law, Tammie Huffman (Randall) of Mississippi, Timmy Whittington, and Tera McArthur (Robert) all of Lake Village and she will be dearly missed by her nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 10, 2025 in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ed Balducci officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg, Arkansas. Online guestbook, www.jones-hartshorn.com
