Daniel “Danny” Kirkland, 71, of Hamburg, died Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at the Veteran’s Hospital in Little Rock. Mr. Kirkland was a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, a former resident of Mobile, Alabama for many years, and a resident of Hamburg for the past 48 years. He was a 1971 graduate of Demopolis High School, and after high school, he proudly entered the United States Army to serve his country during the Vietnam Era. Mr. Kirkland attended the Louisiana Missionary Baptist Institute of Seminary and then attended Forest Echos Vocational Technical College, now the University Of Arkansas College of Technology, having received an Associates Degree in Industrial Technology. He was an Auto Technician and worked at Hennington Chevrolet, Ashley Motors, and Holt Auto Group, having retired in 2011. He was a motorcycle enthusiast, a member of the Freeborn Widow Sons Motorcycle Club, 32nd-degree Mason and a member of the Hamburg Prairie Lodge #465. He was a loyal and humble servant of God, a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, a former Deacon at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church and most recently attended Shiloh Baptist Church. Mr. Kirkland enjoyed watching Alabama football games with his brother, listening to books on tape, and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Bobbie Davis Williamson; his father, William Curtis Kirkland, Sr.; his step-father, Claude “Shorty” Williamson; a sister, Patricia Hale; a brother, William “Bill” Kirkland, Jr., and his father and mother-in-law, Clyde and Imogene Mitchell.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lafran Mitchell Kirkland of Hamburg; a son, Daniel Evan Kirkland of North Little Rock; four sisters, Linda Stewart and husband, David, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Pam Heeter and husband, Rick, of Seneca, Pennsylvania, Annette Vincent and husband, Scott, of Hartstown, Pennsylvania and Joyce Kirkland of Abita Springs, Louisiana; a sister-in-law, Barbara Kirkland of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Mary Joyce Gifford of Fountain Hill, who he thought of as his second mother and a special nephew, Kenny Clarke and two special nieces, Tammy Andrews, and Courtney Tallant.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday, February 12, 2023, at Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Gideons International, PO Box 83, Crossett, AR 71635.
