Charles E. "Gene" Thompson, 70, of Hamburg, died Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. Mr. Thompson was born January 10, 1955 in Crossett, was a lifelong resident of Hamburg and a 1973 graduate of Hamburg High School. After graduation, he decided to forego college and joined his Dad in the family business, R. Thompson, Inc. When his father retired, Mr. Thompson took over and shifted the operation of the business towards highway construction. He, along with his brother, James and later on his nephews, Tyler and Hunter, worked together for many years, until they decided to close in 2020. Mr. Thompson was an avid hunter and especially loved to hunt deer and turkey with his wife.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robby L. and Noma Dean Thompson; a brother, James Thompson and his sister-in-law, Sherry Thompson.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Pat Gwin Thompson; his daughter, Leann Coody and her husband, Caleb; two grandchildren, Clay Coody and Anna Jo Coody; two nephews, Tyler Thompson and his wife, Mallori, and Hunter Thompson and his wife, Punky, and a great-niece, Hadley Thompson, all of Hamburg.
A graveside service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, August 9, 2025, in the Hamburg Cemetery with Dr. Bobby Pennington officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Ogden, Tony Skender, Richard Gwin, Ned Sampolesi, Jim Wells, Pete Kniss, Casey Ivy, Jackie Lauhon, Billy Grimes, Bruce Timmons and Al Harrison.
