Charles "Buddy" Jones Obituary

Charles “Buddy” Jones, 89, of Crossett entered peacefully into Heaven on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at his residence.  Mr. Jones was a native and former resident of Wilmot and has been a resident of Crossett for 47 years.  After he graduated from Wilmot High School in 1950, he married his love, Dorothy, and then joined the United States Army where he earned two service medals and was honorably discharged.  Mr. Jones worked for Texas Gas Transmission in Wilmot until it closed and then transferred to their plant in Bastrop, Louisiana.  He retired from Texas Gas Transmission in 1988 after over 30 years of service.    Mr. Jones was a Mason and a member of the Grand Lodge of Arkansas F & AM, having received his 50-year pin and a member of Pleasant Lane Baptist Church in Crossett. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. After he retired, he and his wife moved their camper to Lake Chicot in Lake Village, where they both made friends with everyone at the camp and enjoyed fish fries regularly.  Mr. Jones would often share his catches with everyone and you wouldn’t be given fish, but clean fillets already in freezer bags. He could repair anything, rewire, replumb and repair your car.  He was a detailed person which meant a lot to his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  He loved his two grandsons and made sure that what one grandson got, the other got the equivalent.

He is preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher E. Lawson in 2017 and his parents, Cleveland and Vernie Ward Jones.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Dorothy Bailey Jones of Crossett; two daughters, Betty J. Marine and husband, David, of West Monroe, Louisiana and Kathy Lawson Landry of Crossett; a brother, Gerald Jones and wife, Zelma, of Sherwood; a sister, Louise Taylor of Walls, Mississippi; his grandson, Brooks Marine of Monroe, Louisiana and his longtime close friend, Wayne Donaldson of Crossett.

A small family graveside service will be held in the Dry Bayou Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105-9959 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
