Carlton Travis Gillum, 91, of the Snyder Community, outside of Montrose, died Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at the John L. McClellan Memorial Veteran's Hospital in Little Rock. Mr. Gillum was a resident of Snyder and former resident of Eudora for many years. While living in Eudora, he owned a barber shop and worked as an electrician before retiring and moving to Snyder in 1998. Mr. Gillum was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Mr. Gillum enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working in his garden.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Velma Hamilton Gillum in 2020; a daughter, Susan Elaine Nichols in 2017; a son, Jeffrey Lee Gillum in 2022 and his parents, Terrell & Gertie Poole Gillum.
He is survived by two sons, Wayne Gillum of Lamar and Larry Gillum and wife, Alyson, of Pearl, Mississippi; a son-in-law, Donald Nichols of Eudora; a daughter-in-law, Suzee Gillum of West Monroe, Louisiana and six grandchildren, Keith Nichols, Mitchell Nichols, Breanne McLendon (Shane), Kayla Pfister (Jonathan), Morgan Gillum and Lia Gillum and a host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services are 2 p.m., Sunday, November 24, 2024 in the Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Visitation will be 1:30 - 2 p.m., Sunday at the cemetery.
