Billie Jean Fisher, 98, of Portland, died Sunday, January 15, 2023, at the Dermott City Nursing Home. Mrs. Fisher was a native and resident of England, Arkansas until 1957, when she moved to Portland. She was a faithful member of the Portland Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Fisher traveled with her husband across the United States from Alaska to Florida to Maine attending Lay Renewal Meetings. She was a wonderful homemaker, made “world-famous” oatmeal cookies, and enjoyed sewing. Mrs. Fisher was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Bob Fisher in 2013; two daughters, Virginia Grimes and Pat Tumlison; two granddaughters, Gina Grimes Smith, and Tiffany Lynne Tumlison; a grandson, Raymond Harold “Scutter” Coulter, Jr.; her parents, Beedie and Pearl Bain Hughes and a sister, Eva McQueen.
She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Littleton of Hall Summit, Louisiana; a son, Bobby Fisher and wife, Twyla, of Portland; a sister, Mary Jane Rollins and husband, James Carroll, of England; 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are 2 p.m., Sunday, January 22, 2023, in the Portland Cemetery with Bro. Mark Harris and Bro. Jerry Selby officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Colten Reno, Dustin Fisher, Cody Channell, Robert Pugh, Enoch Ryals, Jaxson Furr, Billy Golden, Donnie Foster, Gary Vaughn, Scott Young, and Billy Grimes. Visitation will be 6 – 8 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home.
