Betty Sue Grant Barnes, 82, left this earth Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at her son’s residence in Hamburg. Born January 23, 1940, in Crossett, she was a resident of Hamburg for many years. She was a graduate of Crossett High School, an exceptional homemaker, mother, and an active member of her community. Mrs. Barnes was a member of the Hamburg First United Methodist Church, a past member of Beta Sigma Phi, a former elected member of the Hamburg City Council, and a past President and active member of the Hamburg Garden Club. In her later years, her biggest achievement was her beautiful gardens, which she often could be seen tending with a pack of rescue dogs.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Jerry R. Barnes in 2010; an infant daughter, Julie; her parents, Harry and Irene Culp Grant; a sister, Barbara and husband, Gary, nephews, Rusty and Ronnie, many brothers and sisters-in-law and a host of fur babies.
She is survived by her daughter, Diann Barnes of Bishop, Georgia; two sons, Jay Barnes and son-in-law, Mike, of Austin, Texas and Andy Barnes and daughter-in-law, Rhonda, of Hamburg; a sister, Kay Collins and husband, Bert, sister-in-law, Sue Stell; brother-in-law, Mike Barnes and wife, Ethel, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Hospice Home Care of Monticello and a special friend, Hazel Stanley, for helping to care for our mother during her last days.
