Bernice Thompson, 80, of Hamburg, died Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at her residence. Mrs. Thompson was born June 12, 1945 in Palestine, was a resident of Hamburg for the past 20 years and a former resident of Carlisle and Palestine. She worked in the cafeteria at the Hamburg School District for over 10 years and was a faithful member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo and gardening but most of all, she loved to spend time with her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Campbell Sr.; a granddaughter, Brittney Campbell; a grandson, Anthony Coyle; her parents, Fred Henry and Lillie Devasier Hooker and three brothers, Donald "Ray" Hooker, Billy Hooker and James Hooker.
She is survived by a son, William "Junior" Campbell, Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Hamburg; four daughters, Lela Campbell of Hamburg, Virginia Parker of Star City, Karla Mitchell of Vilonia and Dolly Hanks of Star City; two brothers, John Hooker and his wife, Leslie, of Missouri and Gene Hooker and his wife, Betty, of Drasco; four sisters, Carolyn Welling of Memphis, Shirley Colvin and her husband, Gerald, of Forrest City, Kay Williams of Palestine and Odell Davis and her husband, Jackie, of Forrest City; a special sister-in-law, Judy Hooker of Palestine; 8 grandchildren, Will Campbell, Michael Coyle, Robert Coyle and his wife, Jessica, Jonathon Coyle, Robert Parker and his wife, Tia, Bradley Parker and his wife, Samantha, Trey Campbell and his wife, Hagan and Joel Campbell and his wife, Hannah; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, December 26, 2025, at the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Gerald Colvin and Bro. Jared Conatser officiating. Honorary pallbearers are her grandsons. There will be a private family burial in the Bell Cemetery in Palestine.
