Bennie Harold Swan, 88, of Crossett, died Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the Ashley County Medical Center. Mr. Swan was a native and lifelong resident of Crossett and a 1955 graduate of Crossett High School. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a member of the Bastrop United Pentecostal Church. Mr. Swan worked as a Boiler Operator for the Georgia-Pacific Corporation for many years until he retired in 1998. He took pride in canning and gardening and planted a garden every spring up until this past year. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman but most of all he loved cooking for his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Gail Johns in 2012; his parents, Scott Alvin and Madgie Faye Eubanks Swan and a brother, Phillip Don Swan.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alice Kelley Swan of Crossett; two daughters, Debbi Smith and husband, Mickey, of Texarkana and Sonya Powell and husband, Donny, of Hamburg; three grandsons, Chris Smith, Jon Smith and Jacob Smith; two great-grandchildren, James and Jasmen and a special niece, Karen White and husband, Dale of Mississippi.
Funeral Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2024, in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dwight Fulton and Bro. Keith Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Crossroads Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jon Smith, Jacob Smith, Cliff Gee, Michael Menapace, Bryan Pruitt and Mickey Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Wayne Bryan and Donny Powell.
Visitation will be 9-10 a.m., Wednesday in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel.
