Barbara Emory Jones

Barbara Emory Jones, 65, of Hamburg, died Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at her mother’s residence in Hot Springs.  Mrs. Jones was a native of Hot Springs, a resident of the Promise Land Community outside of Hamburg for 60 years and a 1975 graduate of Hamburg High School.  She was the Choral Director at Hamburg High School, having taught music for 30 years. After her retirement, she was asked by the current Choral Director to come back in December of 2021, and conduct a choir concert with many of her former students and current students in the Hamburg School District. Mrs. Jones was a devoted member of the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a former secretary of the Lois Circle and the choir director for 40 years. Her love of music and singing led her to perform with Heartland, Southern Witness, and several other gospel groups. She enjoyed cooking and “made some really good pies”.  A beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, she loved spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Richard “Richie” Emory in 2001; her father, Bro. Eugene Spurlin; her sister, Janie Mays in 2020, and an infant brother.

She is survived by her husband of 14 years, Bruce Jones of Hamburg; a son, Trey Emory and wife, Laura, of Sterlington, Louisiana; five daughters, Genia Emory Lance and husband, James, of Winnsboro, Louisiana, Heather Emory Smith and husband, Blake, of Crossett, Tina Armstrong and husband, Gerad, Angela Boast and husband, Bradley, all of White Hall and Alyssa Koen and husband, Michael, of Hot Springs; her mother, Alice Bryant Spurlin; a brother, Ronnie Spurlin and wife, Teresa, all of Hot Springs; twelve grandchildren, Bailey Meeks and husband, Preston, John David Browning, Cassidy Smith, Richie Browning, Gavin Smith, Nicolas Smith, Lily Boast, Marisa Armstrong, Graylan Smith, Ella Emory, Bobby Emory and Case Armstrong.

Funeral services are 10 a.m., Friday, February 25, 2022, at the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Josh Luellen officiating.  Burial will be in the Promise Land Cemetery. Pallbearers are Donnie Morphis, Lane Culp, Brandon Kelley, Bill Kelley, Mark Barnett and Ricky Rice.  Honorary pallbearers are the men from Southern Witness. Memorials may be made to the Sterlington Missions Building Fund, 420 Ashley Road 70, Hamburg, AR 71646. 

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
