Virginia Grice Riley

Virginia Grice Riley, 97, of Little Rock, was called home Friday, March 8, 2019.  Mrs. Riley was a native of Ashley County, a resident of Little Rock for most of her life and a former resident of Hamburg and Monticello. She was a wonderful and caring nurse, having worked in the operating room at Baptist Health Medical Center for 29 years.  Mrs. Riley was a strong, committed Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church of Hamburg.  She very rarely said goodbye without adding, “I love you” or “God Bless You.”

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jefferson O. Grice, Sr., in 1980; a son, Jefferson O. Grice, Jr. in 2000; her parents, Bunyan and Bertha Richards Courson; five sisters, Mary Beth Woods-Sivils, Nell Davis, Carrie Hill, Modell Bunn and Peggy Echols; three brothers, R.M. “Dick” Courson, B.A. Courson and Harry Courson.

She leaves to cherish her memory, three grandchildren, Nathan Grice and wife, Maggie, of Cabot, Maci Crowther and husband, David, of Blue Springs, Missouri and Jennifer Hennessey and husband, Todd, of Conway; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Grice of Memphis; her special niece and caregiver, Janice Cheatham of Little Rock; seven great-grandchildren and a host nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The family wishes to thank Arkansas Hospice and Colonel Glenn Nursing and Rehab for their care of Mrs. Riley.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, March 15, 2019, in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bobby Pennington officiating.  A private burial will be in Pinewood Memorial Park.  Honorary pallbearers are Larry Cheatham, Paul Courson, Tommy Woods, Alan Davis, Don Davis, Barry Davis, Wayne Courson, Johnny Courson, Ricky Woods, Jimmy Carlton, Jim Walker, Steve Alsup,Tom McLemore and Derek Cheatham.  Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice, 14 Parkstone Circle, Little Rock, AR  72116.
