Rachel Summerland, 80, of Hamburg, died Monday, May 20, 2019. Mrs. Summerland was a native and lifelong resident of the Extra Community, south of Hamburg. She graduated from Hamburg High School in 1957, where she was an honor graduate. Mrs. Rachel worked at the Hamburg Shirt Factory for a number of years and the Noble/Allbritton Elementary School cafeteria for over 20 years. She was a former member of the Hamburg Riding Club for many years and a member of the Extra United Methodist Church. Mrs. Rachel loved being outdoors and enjoyed working in her garden, hunting, and fishing. Most importantly, she loved children and always took time for them.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred Cleveland Summerland in 1992; a grandson, Grant Summerland; her parents, Easter and Reavie Holland Kinnaird; two sisters, Bonnie Dean Kinnaird and Jean Doles; four brothers, Larry L. Kinnaird, Charles Edward Kinnaird, Tom I. Kinnaird and R.E. “Buddy” Kinnaird.
She is survived by her sons, Cleve Summerland and wife, Connie, of Crossett and Keith Summerland and wife, Paula, of Hamburg; three sisters, Sara Cruce of Monticello, Faye Hunter and Ann Austin and husband, James, all of Hamburg; her best friend, Eunice Matthews of Hamburg; eight grandchildren, Kevin Summerland and fiance, April Phillips, Karri Shaver, Lynnette Barnes and husband, Justin, Roseanna Watson and husband, Daniel, Kaitlyn Maloch and husband, Mason, Michael Terrell and wife, Crystal, Cora Vorhease and husband, Michael, and Kelsey Summerland; 11 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Thursday, May 23, 2019, in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Babcock officiating. Burial will be in the Extra Cemetery. Pallbearers are Kirk Doles, Calvin Kinnaird, Ragan Hunter, Phil Kinnaird, Andy Kinnaird, Chuck Kinnaird, Junior Cruce, and Jim Pollock.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
