Philip Mears Couey Obituary

Philip Mears Couey, 68, of Hamburg, died Sunday, May 27, 2018.  Mr. Couey was a native of Fountain Hill, a resident of Hamburg for the past 13 years and a former resident of Hot Springs and Casper, Wyoming.  A 1968 graduate of Fountain Hill High School, he attended the Arkansas A&M College in Monticello, now the University of Arkansas at Monticello.  He was taught a strong work ethic as a young boy and while in high school and college, he worked for his brother-in-law, Bill Foote, at the Dixie Dandy in North Crossett.  He went on to manage the Warren Dixie Dandy and later, the Monticello Dixie Dandy. He was a faithful member of the Fountain Hill First Baptist Church and the Hamburg First United Methodist Church. He loved and was very proud of his two daughters, grandchildren and great-granddaughter.  He would make daily calls to each one just to check on them.  He truly believed his grandchildren and great-granddaughter hung the moon.  He was devoted to his family and friends and took great pleasure in spending time with his great nephews, Connor and Porter Foote and Jay Alan Johnston, Jr.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Quinton and Rachel Mears Couey and his older brother, Oliver Quinton Couey in 2012.

He is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Summerlin and husband, Jay, of Bryant and Kathy Fleming and husband, Marc, of Casper, Wyoming; two sisters, Nancy Clair Couey Foote Spivey of Hamburg and Cheryl Diane Couey Wilson and husband, Chuck, of DeWitt; five grandchildren, Shelbi Dearing and husband, Randy, Lindsey Summerlin, Alex Summerlin, Tanner Summerlin and Abigail Fleming; a great-granddaughter, Charli Dearing; a special care-giver, Becky Atkins McDonald and several nieces and nephews.
