Nellie Ruth Spires McManus, 81, of Parkdale, died Saturday, December 23, 2017 at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, Louisiana. Mrs. McManus was a native of Parkdale and a life long resident of the Gaines Community outside of Wilmot and Parkdale. She was a homemaker, the caretaker of the Bell Cemetery for 18 years and a member of the Parkdale Baptist Church where she was an active member of the Women’s Missionary Union for many years. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Archie “Jack” McManus in 2008; a daughter, Jackie Ruth McManus in 1954; a granddaughter, Jodi Nicole (Nikki) Carpenter in 2009; her parents, D.C. and Lucy Brown Spires; two sisters, Betty Jordan and Mary McManus and a son-in-law, Byron Smith.
She is survived by two sons, Johnny McManus and wife, Margie, of Mexia, Texas and Leroy McManus of Hamburg; two daughters, Anita Williams of Parkdale and Betty Acord and husband, Eddie, of Fairfield, Texas; five brothers, Buddy Spires of Grayson, Louisiana, Charles Spires, Jimmy Spires and Curtis Spires all of West Monroe, Louisiana and Raymond Spires of Chatham, Louisiana; three sisters, Macel Taylor and Maryland Dicks both of Eros, Louisiana and Debbie Parker of Columbia, Louisiana; 9 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at the Parkdale Baptist Church with Bro. Eddie Acord and Bro. Bob Bridges officiating. Burial will be in the Bell Cemetery. Pallbearers are Raymond Spires, Jimmy Spires, Curtis Spires, Clay Smith, Joey Anderson and Paul Everett. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
