Mary Alice Franklin

Mary Alice Franklin, 72, of Hamburg, died Friday, October 19, 2018.  Mrs. Franklin was a native of Crossett and a resident of Hamburg since 1967.  She was an educator and Librarian, having taught at the Pine Street School in Hamburg, the Fountain Hill High School, and the Hamburg Middle School for 38 years.  Mrs. Franklin was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She loved her kids, her grandkids and all of her kids from school.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Franklin in 2000; her son, Ted Franklin in 2015 and her parents, Clifton Albert & Melba Jean Terry Pendergrass.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Tran, and husband, Tuan, whom she thought of as her own son, of Hamburg; her brothers, Marvin Pendergrass and wife, Kathy, of Dallas, Texas, Cliff Pendergrass and wife, Sarah, of Bastrop, Louisiana and Dewitt Pendergrass and wife, Brenda, of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Rhiannon, Amy and Cody; her Tran family; Lan & Tinh Tran, Maria Tran and husband, Juan, and their children, Nicholas, Christopher, Anna and Oliver, Anne Tran and husband, Anh and their children, Mia and Emma, Rose Tran and husband, Luca, and their children, Christiano, Noa and Chamilla all from the Philadelphia area; close friends she thought of as family, Doug Nutter, Caleb Mills, Lee Johnson and wife, Brina and all of the kids she taught in her 38 years of teaching.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 27, 2018, at the First Baptist Church of Hamburg with Bro. Trey Emory officiating.  Honorary pallbearers are Vernon Fischer, Trapper Holland, Cleveland Wilson, Dewey “Scutter” Kilcrease, Daryle Daniels, Sr., Bob Martin, and Shelby Harrod. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hamburg High School Honors Scholarship Fund, PO Box 30, Hamburg, AR  71646.
