Marjorie Sawyer Thacker, 90, of Fountain Hill, died Thursday, December 21, 2017 at the Stonegate Villa Health and Rehabilitation Center. A native of the Extra Community south of Hamburg, she lived in Fountain Hill for the past 23 years and was a former resident of Washington State. Mrs. Thacker was a 1945 graduate of Hamburg High School and she retired in 1989 from the Department of the Army after 25 years of service. She was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church. She loved life and spending time with her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Zemry and Nennie Gulledge Sawyer and a sister, Chrystola Dean Sawyer Ray.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Frank B. Thacker, Jr. of Fountain Hill; a son, George Paul Thacker and wife, Betty, of Darien, Connecticut; three daughters, Anna “Looney” Thacker of Crossett; Vinita Carol Dew of Kirksville, Missouri and Dava Chrystola Zirnheld and husband, Jerome, of Toledo, Washington; a brother, David T. Sawyer and wife, Barbara, of Springhill, Louisiana; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held in the Spring. Burial will be in the Extra Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Extra Cemetery Association, c/o Mrs. Dorothy Farmer, 1303 N. Cherry Street, Hamburg, AR 71646.
