Henry Marquette “Mark” Gilliam, Sr., 88, of Oak Grove, Louisiana, died Saturday, May 26, 2018. Mr. Gilliam was a native of Lawson, Arkansas; a resident of Oak Grove, Louisiana for the past 18 years and a former resident of Wilmot, Arkansas for many years. He worked as an operator at the Wells-Pugh Gin in Wilmot for many years. He was a hard worker and enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising a truck patch garden that he shared with everyone. He always had a twinkle in his eye and will be remembered as being very much of a man.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Betty L. Gilliam; his parents, Terrell Gillum, Sr. and Gertie Poole Gillum; two brothers, Benny and Winfred Gillum and two sisters, Dorothy McPherson and Delia Jean Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Prudhomme Gilliam of Oak Grove, Louisiana; a daughter, Deborah Long and husband, Ronald, of Bastrop, Louisiana; four sons, Benny Gilliam and wife, Sheryl, of Portland, Jimmy Don Gillum and wife, Holly, of Hamburg, Mark Gilliam, Jr. and wife, Susan, of Bastrop, Louisiana and Kenny Gilliam and wife, Vicki, of Clinton, Mississippi; four brothers, William Bernard Gillum of Waco, Texas, Travis Gillum of Snyder, Terrell Gillum of Eudora, and James Gillum of Noble, Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services are 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2018 in the Dry Bayou Cemetery with Bro. Douglas Edwards officiating. Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital, PO Box 2222, Little Rock, Arkansas 72203-9984.
Visitation will start at 10:45 a.m., Tuesday at the cemetery.
