George Wilson

George Wilson, 79, of Portland, died Thursday, December 28, 2017 at the Ruston Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ruston, Louisiana.  Mr. Wilson was a native of Nola, Arkansas, a resident of Portland for 21 years and a former resident of Marseilles, Illinois for many years.  He served in the Arkansas National Guard and was a member of Aulds Baptist Church.  He enjoyed singing and was a member of a country western band for years.  Mr. Wilson loved his family and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Annie Newsom Wilson in 2007; his parents, Tom and Mae Blair Wilson; two sisters, Virgie Hogue and Syble Christmas and two brothers, Oscar Dewey “Hux” Wilson and Tommy Noel Wilson.

He is survived by a daughter, Georgia Fuller and husband, William, of Ruston, Louisiana; a brother, Bill Wilson and wife, Francis, of Portland; two sisters, Ruby Bennett of Hot Springs and Pat Temple of Trussville, Alabama; three grandchildren, Katrina Mae Fuller, Joshua Shelton Fuller and Margaret Ann Medlin and husband, Greg; two great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are 11 a.m., Saturday December 30, 2017 in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ben Coulter officiating.  Burial will be in the Portland Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jack Frost, Ronald Pettis, Joe Wilson, David Wilson, Perry Wilson and Bruce Smith.  Memorials may be made to the Portland Cemetery Association, PO Box 174, Portland, AR 71663.  The family would like to express a special “thank you” to the staff of Ruston Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and to Aime Hospice Care of West Monroe, Louisiana for their loving and compassionate care. 

Visitation will be 10-11 a.m., before the service Saturday.
