Erwin Jackson Turner

August 12, 1943 ~ October 5, 2017 (age 74) 74 Years Old

Erwin Jackson Turner, 74, of Hamburg, died Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the Chicot Memorial Medical Center in Lake Village.  Mr. Turner was a native of Ashley County and moved back to Hamburg 23 years ago.  He was a 1960 graduate of Hamburg High School.  He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and the United States Navy having retired in 1990 after 28 years of service.  After he retired from the military, he worked as a Dispatcher for the Ashley County Sheriff’s Department for several years then he went to work for Southeast Arkansas Transportation “SEAT” for 10 years.  He was a member of Gardner Baptist Church, Hamburg Masonic Prairie Lodge #465, Eastern Star and American Legion Post 75.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William Erwin and Ora Chamberlin Chance Turner; two half-brothers, Bill and Walter Chance, Jr. and a half-sister, Marie Mae Grant and three nephews.

He is survived by a sister, Barbara Chance Foster of Hamburg; five nephews, Jimmy Stell, Hank Stell, David Chance, Donald Chance and Mark Chance and two nieces, Patricia Miller and Carol Chance.

Graveside service and burial are 10 a.m., Saturday, October 7, 2017 in the Hamburg Cemetery with Rev. Eugene Howie officiating.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Sunday school class of Gardner Baptist Church.  Memorials may be made to the Gardner Baptist Church, PO Box 311, Hamburg, AR 71646. 

Visitation will be 9:45 – 10 a.m., Saturday, at the cemetery.
