Clarence “C.H.” Hennington, 87, of Portland, died Tuesday, December 4, 2018. Mr. Hennington was a native of Wilmot and a resident of Portland for most of his life. The oldest of nine children, he helped raise his younger brothers and sisters. Mr. Hennington was the head mechanic for the Portland Farm Equipment Company, having retired after 48 years. He served as the Portland Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief, was the Night Watchman in Portland for many years and he was a member of the Portland Baptist Church for over 50 years. Mr. Hennington loved to hunt and enjoyed watching the Gospel Hour on television every Saturday night, but his passion was watching baseball.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey and Jessie Goff Hennington; three sisters, Liz Howell, Myrtle Temple, and Marie Harvey and four brothers, Billy, Ray, Frankie, and Punk Hennington.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Frances Eddy Hennington of Portland; his sons, Johnny Hennington and wife, Vikki, of Crossett, Walter Ray Hennington and wife, Dee, of Lake Village, Frank Henry Hennington and wife, Pat, of Gainesville, Georgia and Jessie Hennington and wife, Ashley, of Greenbrier; a brother, Teddy Hennington of Petal, Mississippi; 10 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services are 3 p.m., Sunday, December 9, 2018, at the Portland Baptist Church with Bro. David Sullivan and Jerry Selby officiating. Burial will be in the Portland Cemetery. Pallbearers are H.T. Cunningham, George Rutledge, Glen Reynolds, Mike Brooks, Ronnie Kelley, and Don Arensman. Honorary pallbearers are Buddy Lawrence, Ron Miller, Curtis Rotten, Bob McCracken and Jimmy Sadler. Visitation will be 2– 3 p.m., Sunday at the church.
