Boyce Edward Harrod Obituary

Boyce Edward Harrod, 89, of Hamburg, died Friday, April 13, 2018.  Mr. Harrod was a native of Holly Grove, Arkansas and a former resident of Little Rock and Arkadelphia. He was a 1951 graduate of Henderson State University. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during Korean Conflict, where as a Captain, he trained pilots. Boyce had a life that most would have loved to have accomplished.  He worked for Alcoa from 1954 until 1958 and was hired by Witt & Jack Stephens to oversee the building and opening of The Coachmans Inn in Little Rock.  He served as City Manager of Arkadelphia from 1966 until 1975.  He moved to Hamburg and was a Rice & Soybean Farmer and Manager of Engelkes Farms and Harrod Inc. from 1975 until 2011 and served as Mayor of Hamburg from 1990 until 1998. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

He married his first love, Donna Beth Manes Harrod of Brinkley (the mother of Leanne Harrod) and after her death, he met and married the second love of his life on June 9, 1966, Bonnie Faye Engelkes of Hamburg, daughter of Margaret and Lloyd Engelkes. Along with Bonnie came a bright, funny, little boy named Tab, who very quickly fell in love with Boyce and looked up to him. In 1969, Tab and Leanne welcomed a tag-along sister, Amy Kay. They all grew up loving each other as close, caring siblings. Yes, they were a mine, yours and ours, but you would have never known it.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Donna Beth Manes Harrod in 1965; his second wife, Bonnie Engelkes Harrod in 2014; a son, Tab Harrod in 1997; a grandson, Jeremy Harrod in 1983; his parents, H. E. and Annie Parthenia Hining Harrod, Sr. and a brother, H. E. Harrod in 1988.

He is survived by two daughters, Leanne Harrod Krillenberger and husband, John, of Little Rock, Amy Kay Harrod and wife, Vicky, of Fayetteville; a sister, Shirley Harrod Spurlock of West Memphis; six grandsons, Brent Harrod, Brandon Harrod, Hayden Harrod, Trey Krillenberger, Evan Boyce Krillenberger, and Reid Schlack and three great grandchildren, Lynlee Harrod, Grayden Tab Harrod and Emeri Krillenberger.
