Maxwell Dean Hill Obituary

Maxwell Dean Hill, 79, of Hamburg, died Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at his residence. Mr. Hill was a native of Crossett and had been a resident of Hamburg for over 40 years. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, having been stationed in Germany during the Vietnam Conflict. Mr. Hill was a 32nd-degree Mason, a member of the Hamburg Praire Masonic Lodge #465, a former member of the Bethany Baptist Church in Snellville, Georgia, a member of the First Baptist Church in Hamburg, and had formerly attended the First United Methodist Church in Portland. In 1967, Mr. Hill began working as an Alltel Lineman in Crossett. Soon, he was hired at Burnup and Sims, a Cable Television Company. Through many years of hard work, dependability, and exemplary leadership skills, he was eventually promoted to Vice President of Operations in Atlanta, Georgia. During his employment with Burnup and Sims, Mr. Hill and his wife relocated to multiple states. He had always longed to return to his home state of Arkansas and in the summer of 1983, he moved his family back to his boyhood hometown of Hamburg. In 2007, he was approached by a juvenile judge who saw a need to help children in Southeast Arkansas through resident treatment services. Because of his love for children and compassion to help others, he accepted the challenge and opened Delta Health and Fitness Center for Children. Mr. Hill was significantly involved with his community and supported numerous organizations including the Hamburg Lions Band, the Hamburg Booster Club, and the Crossett Rodeo, where he was the oldest and longest supporter. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching all sports, but most importantly, all Arkansas Razorback games. He was an avid collector of coins, art, and all things antique. Mr. Hill took great pride in his entrepreneurial endeavors, but nothing ever brought him more joy and a sense of accomplishment than his family.

He is preceded in death by his father, Maxwell Lee Hill; his mother, Eloise Fern Bates Hill; his step-mother, Mary Sue Norsworthy Hill; a brother, Tracey Hill; a sister, Karon Carter; a niece, Katie Ellen Carter Shumate and a nephew, Caleb Carter.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Katherine Sadler Hill of Hamburg; a son, Dean Hill, II and wife, Jennifer; a daughter, Becky Brooks and husband, Mike, all of Portland; three brothers, Philip Hill of Monticello; Rickey Hill of California and Walter Hill of Hamburg; a step-sister, Charlun Brett of Nashville; five grandchildren, Josh Brooks and wife, Meagan, Max Hill and wife, Danielle, Payton Brooks, James Hill and wife, Ashley, and Anna Furlong and husband, Tyler; six great grandchildren, Eloise Claire Brooks, Jonah Brooks, Wyatt Hill, Harper Hill, Jackson Dean Hill and Heath Hill and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
