Mary K. Otwell

Mary K. Otwell, 74, of Wilmot, died Thursday, January 25, 2024 at her residence. Mrs. Otwell was born in Munich, Germany, and has been a resident of Wilmot since 1967. She worked as a Nursing Home Administrator at the Wilmot Nursing Home for several years before becoming a Rural Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service in Wilmot until she retired. Mrs. Otwell was a faithful member of the Wilmot Methodist Church. She had a generous heart, was always willing to help others, and put everyone first before thinking of herself. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is preceded in death by an infant son, Stephen W. Otwell, Jr. in 1967; her mother, Alice Durham Low; two sisters, Sandra Low McGaugh and Kay Low Gable and a special aunt, Emma Sanderson.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Steve Otwell of Wilmot; a daughter, Sherrer McKenzie and husband, Christopher, of Lake Providence, Louisiana; two sons, Stephen Otwell and wife, Deniece, of Little Rock and Matt Otwell and wife, Mary Michelle, of Zachary, Louisiana; a brother, Viron T. Kersh, III of Wilmot; two sisters, Penny Crowson of Tupelo, Mississippi and Judy Cannon and husband, James, of Greensboro, Georgia; 10 grandchildren, Tyler Otwell and wife, Courtney, Mary Katelyn Dumond and husband, Tristian, Hallie Jernigan, Hadden Jernigan, Thomas Batton and Drew Bennett, Davis Batton and wife, Regan, Malin Batton, Ally McKenzie, Alexander Otwell, and Abigail Otwell; four great-grandchildren. Emery Dumond, Brynn Otwell, Rafe Otwell and Lainey Batton and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.

Memorial services are 2 p.m., Saturday, January 27, 2024, in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Brian Wetzler officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105.

Visitation will be from 1:30 – 2 p.m., Saturday in the chapel.
