Martha Strother Ricks, 85, of Snyder, died Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at the Lake Village Rehabilitation and Care Center in Lake Village. Mrs. Ricks was a native of Portland and a resident of Ashley County for most of her life. She was a member of Aulds Baptist Church, a homemaker, and worked as a Seamstress at the Lake Village and Hamburg Shirt Factories for many years. Mrs. Ricks was an avid reader, enjoyed painting and fishing, but being outside working in her flowers and gardening is what she enjoyed most. She loved spending time with her family and was a loving mother and grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Louis Ricks, Sr., in 2014; a granddaughter, Charity Stahley; her parents, Doyle and Thelma McCoy Strother; and two brothers, James Earl Strother and Doyle Warren Strother, Jr.
She is survived by her son, Tommy Ricks of Snyder; three daughters, Verna Ferry of Wilmar, Nancy Turner of Gillett and Brenda Sedberry and husband, Howell, of Hamburg; a sister, Wanda Skaggs and husband, Ron, of Bryant; five grandchildren, Jimmie Ann Fleetwood, Clayton Wayne Sedberry, Jarrod Stahley, Bridgett Marie Williams and Gregory Scott Williamson; seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m., Friday, April 19, 2024, in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Scott Ricks officiating. Burial will be in the Portland Cemetery. Pallbearers are Lamar Vestal, Austin Vestal, Brian Fleetwood, Taylor Hawkins, Franklin Ricks, and Rodney Ricks.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
