John David Varnell, 71, of Crossett, died Monday, February 12, 2024, at Audrey’s Special Home in Hamburg. Mr. Varnell was a native and former resident of Crossett, a former resident of Alverado, Texas for ten years having moved back to Crossett six years ago. He was a 1970 graduate of Crossett High School. Mr. Varnell worked as a welder and pipefitter for 40 years having retired in 2012 and was a member of the Local 706. He enjoyed welding, riding motorcycles, being on the water skiing, rodeos, horses, fishing and hunting. He had a great sense of humor and laughed harder than anyone else at his own jokes.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Veo and Ruth Austin Varnell and a brother, Charles “Charlie” Varnell.
He is survived by his son, Charles Varnell and wife, Jennifer; his grandson, Michael Skyler Varnell; the mother of his son, Nancy Varnell all of Crossett and a host of cousins, other family and friends.
A graveside service will be 10 a.m., Friday, February 16, 2024, in the Lakewood Cemetery with Evangelist Arthur Summitt officiating. Memorials may be made to Hospice Home Care, 990 Hwy 425N., Monticello, AR 71655.
