Janet D. Clifton

Janet D. Clifton, 74, of Wilmot, died Monday, January 1, 2024, at Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas in Rogers. Mrs. Clifton was born in Fayetteville, having grown up in Joiner, and she has been a resident of Wilmot for the past 55 years. She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1967. She worked as an Office Manager for Wells-Pugh Gin for 17 years, Wilmot State Bank (Delta Trust) for several years, and was an Office Manager for SouthArk Equipment Company until she retired in 2018. Mrs. Clifton was a great community worker and was often referred to as “Mrs. Wilmot.” Because of her love and dedication to her community, she always kept her door open for anyone in need. She enjoyed feeding anyone who showed up and had a meal ready every day. She was a natural caregiver and she never met a stranger. Mrs. Clifton was a devoted and active member of the Wilmot Church of Christ. She enjoyed working in her yard and gardening and took pride in keeping her house clean and in order. She loved her family and was a great wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Violet Denice Forbes Key, her father and mother-in-law, Vernon Joseph and L.V. Matheny Clifton and a niece, Beth Ann Whitehead Brown.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Darrell Clifton of Wilmot; two sons, Jeff Clifton of Rogers and Richard Clifton and wife, Becca, of Prairie Grove; a sister, JoAnne Worsham of Joiner; two sisters-in-law, Dawna Clifton Whitehead of Wilmot and Bonita Clifton Herrington of Mountain View; a brother-in-law, Cliff Clifton of Wilmot; four grandchildren, Alli, Sam, Sophie and Ruby Ann and several nieces and nephews. 

Graveside services are 2 p.m., Thursday, January 4, 2024, in the Wilmot Cemetery with Bro. Charles Fricke and George Utnage officiating. Pallbearers are Doris Hammond, Corliss McCain, Dorothy Randolph, B.B. Gregory, June Zheng, Mary Otwell, Trish Williamson, Kay Middlebrooks, Tamara Simms, Nancy O’Neal, Novilla Frazer and Gale Miller. Honorary pallbearers are Andrew Metcalfe, Butch Zaunbrecher, James Crossley, Dennis Gregory, Cayce Stock, Richard Stock, Cliff Clifton, Phil Moss, Ron Miller, Danny Simms, Jerod Williamson, Alan Chandler, John Acosta and Shannon Henson. Memorials may be made to the Wilmot Cemetery Association, PO Box 160, Wilmot, AR  71676.

Visitation will be 1:30-2 p.m., Thursday at the cemetery.
