William “Sonny” Jackson, 86, of Crossett, died Monday, August 28, 2017 at the Stonegate Villa Health and Rehabilitation Center in Crossett. Mr. Jackson was a native of Jones, Louisiana and a resident of Crossett for the past 68 years. A talented craftsman, he could build anything and worked as a carpenter for Don Pennington for 25 years. He was a member of the Cloverdale Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, was an avid hunter and he enjoyed gardening.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Roy Woodrow & Myrtle Inez Brown Jackson; a grandson, Joshua David Slaughter; a great-grandson, Houston Anthony Slaughter; three sisters and one brother.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ellen Jones Jackson of Crossett; four sons, Walter Woodrow Jackson of Crossett, Robert Wayne Jackson of Santa Fe, Texas, William Earl Jackson and wife, Deanie, of Hamburg and James Wesley Jackson of Houston, Texas; three daughters, Janice Carol Evans and husband, Mike, of Houston, Texas, Carolyn Jo Reeves and husband, Charles, of Crossett and Debra Kay Slaughter and husband, Steve, of El Dorado; two brothers, Bill Jackson of Warren and Eugene Jackson of Andalusia, Alabama; three sisters, Pauline White of Hamburg, Faye Stevens of Crossett and Geneva McQuillin of Beekman, Louisiana; 12 grandchildren, Steven Evans, Amanda Johnson, Daniel Cotton, Vanessa Purvis, Danny Jo Slaughter, Brian Jackson, Mandy Atchley, Waylon Jackson, Crystal Jackson, Blake Jackson, Dillon Jackson and Jennifer Jackson; 20 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are 3 p.m, Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at the Cloverdale Assembly of God Church with Bro. Carlton White and Bro. Wes Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Carlock Cemetery. Pallbearers are Donnie Atchley, Brian Jackson, Thomas Lanham, Daniel Cotton, Ronnie McDonald and Michael White. Honorary pallbearers are Steven Evans, Hayden Evans and Blake Jackson.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, at the church.
