William David Martin, 89, of Hamburg, died Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the Chapel Woods Health & Rehabilitation Center in Warren. Mr. Martin was a native and lifelong resident of Ashley County and Hamburg. He graduated from Hamburg High School in 1945 and he was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked for Bemis Bag Company for 33 years and was the ground keeper at Farmer’s Bank for many years. He was a member of the Maplevale Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Marion Marie McDuffie Martin in 2011; his parents, John P. & Ella Mae Hopkins Martin, four brothers, Walter, Rowland, Oliver and James Martin and four sisters, Odiest Chapman, Odessa Bridges, Ernestine Watson and Mattie Lee Rials.
He is survived by three daughters, Linda Jones of Brandon, Mississippi, Sharon Coulter and husband, George, of Redding, California and Patsy Plair and husband, Bob, of Warren; a sister-in-law, Barbara Scott of Crossett, 8 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 10 a.m., Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Maplevale Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Sam Tamburo and Bro. Jerry Carter officiating. Burial will be in Pinewood Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Joey Miller, Donnie McCaughan, Eric Ricks, Chris Gray, Eddie Raines and Chris Sexton. Honorary pallbearers are Allen Maxwell, Hilton Goodwin, Jimmy Johnson and Jimmy Don Gilliam. Memorials may be made to the Maplevale Missionary Baptist Church, 3331 Highway 425 S. Hamburg, AR 71646.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
