Veda Bernice Hughes Roper

Veda Bernice Hughes Roper, 98, of Russellville, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at the Russellville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Roper was born on November 8, 1917, on White Oak Mountain at East Fork in Pope County, Arkansas.  She was a resident of Russellville, Arkansas for many years and a former resident of the Wilmot, Arkansas area for many years. She worked as a Nurses Aid and she was a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mode Franklin Roper, Sr., in 1966; two sons, Mode Franklin Roper, Jr. and Billy Joe Roper, Sr.; two grandchildren, Delbert Ray Harrison and Ricky Roper; her parents, Lester and Lola Parton Hughes; three brothers; two sisters and a son-in-law, Delbert Harrison.

Mrs. Roper is survived by a daughter, Nancy Harrison of Homosassa, Florida; grandchildren,  Beverly Coutee and husband, Tommy, Mel Roper and wife, Judy, Billy Roper and wife, Tina, Dennis Roper and wife, Tammy, and Gail Smith; eight great-grandchildren, numerous great-great grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, JoAnn Roper of Russellville, Arkansas.

Funeral services are 4 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2016 at the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Joe Yates officiating. A private burial will be held in the Dry Bayou Cemetery in Wilmot, Arkansas. Honorary pallbearers are Dennis Bruhn, Michael Adams, Ricky Roper, Jr., Craig Roper, Tommy Coutee and Mel Roper. 

Visitation will be 2 p.m., Friday until the service.
