Tommy Lane Smith, 70, of Crossett, died Sunday, April 3, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Smith was a native and life long resident of Crossett. He graduated from Crossett High School in 1968 and he was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked for Brown & Root for 30 years and he was a member of the Church of the Redeemer. He loved to hunt and fish and he enjoyed working in his garden and cutting firewood.
He is preceded in death by her mother, Mallie Ruth Norrell, his step-father, William R. “Boy” Norrell and his father, Thomas E. Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Alice Lewis Smith; a son, Jamie Carpenter and wife, Angela; three daughters, Lisa Ann Sothern all of Crossett, Kim Beard and husband, Sean, of Starkville, Mississippi and Kathi Sadler of Benton; a brother, Don Smith and wife, Marlene, of Willard, Missouri; a sister, Penny Mashburn of Hamburg; 8 grandchildren, Melisa Sadler, Brandi Sadler, Kyle Sadler, Shawn Gilliland, Lane Carpenter, Brandon Gilliland, Aydan Carpenter and Jayce Carpenter and one great-grandchild, Grayson Sadler.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the Church of the Redeemer with Rev. Bob Whiteley officiating. Honorary pallbearers are John Pennington, Billy Bolin, Lane Carpenter, Kyle Sadler, Shawn Gilliland and Brandon Gilliland. A private burial will in the Crossroad Cemetery. Visitation will be after the service at the church.
