Peggy C. Rice, 73, of Portland, died Sunday, July 31, 2016 at her residence. Mrs. Rice was a native of Drew County and a resident of Portland for the past 56 years. She graduated from Hamburg High School and she worked at Peoples Bank in Portland for over 35 years. She was a member of the Portland Baptist Church where she was active in her Sunday school class. She enjoyed working in her yard and her flowers.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley & Vera Lee Higgason Cox, a sister, Dovie Stanley and three brothers, Lamar, R. L. & Leroy Cox.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Carl Rice, Jr., of Portland; a daughter, Christie Owens and husband, William of Metcalfe, Mississippi; a brother, Waymon Cox of Magnolia; a special niece, Linda Rogers of Siloam Springs and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at the Portland Baptist Church with Rev. Carl Mason and Jerry Selby officiating. Burial will be in the Portland Cemetery. Pallbearers are Ron Miller, Jimmy Sadler, Richard Sadler, George Rutledge, Buddy Lawrence and Emory Austin. Honorary pallbearers are Denver Burns, Bill Wilson, Benton Newcome, Michael Borland and Taylor Young. Memorials may be made to the Portland Cemetery Association, PO Box 51, Portland, AR 71663.
Visitation will be 10-11 a.m., Tuesday at the church.
