Welcome to the memorial page for

Mary Frances Allen

December 20, 1926 ~ July 14, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Mary Frances Allen, 90, of Mist, passed away Friday, July 14, 2017 at the Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville, Mississippi.  Mrs. Allen was a native and lifelong resident of Mist.  She was a graduate of Portland High School and a member of the Hamburg First United Methodist Church.  She enlisted in the Women’s Army Corp and served from July 1949 until December 1952. She lived in New York for a short period of time for employment and after returning from New York, she began a career at Ashley-Chicot Electric.  She worked for the Coop for approximately 40 years and witnessed the many changes the company experienced.  She was a member of the American Legion Post 75 and one of her passions was the American Legion Boy’s State program.  Mrs. Allen fulfilled various responsibilities within the American Legion Post 75, but the one she was most proud of is her role in sending many boys to the annual American Legion Boy’s State to learn about state government.  Her enduring wish is that the veterans of the area would take the initiative to make Post 75 a more vibrant Post and continue the legacy of sending eligible students to Boy’s State.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Hogan E. Allen in 1976; an infant daughter, Alice Jane Allen in 1957; her parents, Roby and Janie Ladd Henry; a brother, Jack Ladd Henry and a sister, Lorraine Wall.

She is survived by a daughter, Karen Stanley of Finley, Oklahoma; a son, Dudley Allen of Papillion, Nebraska; a brother, Shirley Henry of Prattville, Alabama; a sister, Sallye Henry Thompson of Houston, Texas five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Greg Comer officiating.  Honorary pallbearers are the members of the American Legion Post 75. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 75, Boy’s State Program, c/o Ronnie Rice, 183 Ashley Road 465, Hamburg, AR 71646.
