John W. "Johnny" Carpenter

John W. “Johnny” Carpenter, 70, of Snyder, died Monday, September 25, 2017 at the Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello.  Mr. Carpenter was a native of Bradley County, a resident of Snyder since 1991 and a former resident of Portland for many years.  He was a farmer and a member of the Montrose Baptist Church.  He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, was an avid hunter and fisherman and he enjoyed camping.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Shelia Carpenter Jones; a granddaughter, Nikki Carpenter; his parents, Clem & Doris Rowe Carpenter, four sisters and a brother.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Edna Jones Carpenter of Snyder; two sons, John William Carpenter, Jr. of Fountain Hill and Joe Winters of Snyder; two daughters, Marilyn Carpenter Hall of Fountain Hill and Misty L. Winters of Snyder; a sister, Jean Richter of Dermott; ; three grandchildren, Jody Jones, Jr., Marlana Carrion and Gauge Yarbrough; his first wife and the mother of his children, Carolyn Carpenter of Fountain Hill and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday, September 29, 2017 in the Chapel of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Donaldson officiating.  Burial will be in the Trafalgar Cemetery.  Pallbearers are J. T. Elmore, Ryan Elmore, LeRay Martin, Tommy Huff, Emilio Yanez and Dale Caine.  Honorary pallbearers are Zack Caine and Jackie Manshack. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 1610, Little Rock, AR 72203. 

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
