Gladys Pryor, 93, of Monticello, died Sunday, February 4, 2018. Mrs. Pryor was a native of Ashley County, a resident of Monticello for the past 15 years and a former resident of Hamburg for over 70 years. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Auxillary. She enjoyed arts & crafts, fishing, camping, gardening and taking care of children.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, John W. Pryor in 2005; a son, John Sidney Pryor in 1997; a great-grandson, Aaron Paul Sawyer; her parents, Walter and Laura Ellingburg Bates; two brothers, Robert and Dewitt Bates and three sisters, Dorothy Finley, Beulla Gates and Adine Irons.
She is survived by a son, Jerry Pryor, Sr. and wife, Sherry Johnson Pryor, of Monticello; 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Larry Donaldson and Bro. Joel Meredith officiating. Burial will be in the Hamburg Cemetery. Pallbearers are Junior Irons, John Anthony Pryor, Brent Emerson, Ronnie Nelms, Ted Hickman and Lee Thornhill.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
