Dewayne Brooks, 66, of Hamburg, died Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. Mr. Brooks was a native of Portland and a resident of Hamburg for the past 44 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam Era. He was a log truck driver for Mashburn Logging for many years. He was a founding member of the Hamburg Riding Club and an active member of the Southside Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and horses and he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Laverne Miller Brooks
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda Farmer Brooks; a daughter, Kelli Clark and husband, Thomas; two sons, Kirby Brooks and wife, Celita, and Steven Brooks all of Hamburg; a sister, Lanette Ables and husband, David of Traskwood; five grandchildren, Addison Gray, Tyson Brooks, Saxton Brooks, Jenna Clark and Pierson Brooks; two step-grandchildren, Maddie and Laney Clark and a very special family member, Brad Gray of Hamburg.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Saturday, December 26, 2015 at the Southside Baptist Church with Bro. Vaughn Blue, Jr. and Bro. Sanders Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the Hamburg Cemetery. Pallbearers are Mike Martin, Kenny Bowden, Darren Johnson, Eugene White, Ray Woods, Wade Jacks, Bryon Jackson and Don (Duck) Gwin. Honorary pallbearers are John Dumas, Glen Lawson, John Daley, Walter Wigley, Lamar Higginbotham, Royce Bowden, Ralph Jackson, Richard Gwin, Tony Vestal and Herman Jackson.
