Charles “Buddy” Tanksley, 69, of Hamburg, died Friday, July 15, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Tanksley was a native of Parkdale and a resident of Hamburg for most of his life. He was a carpenter and a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Snyder for 30 years. He loved spending time with his family and he was a great husband, daddy and papaw. He enjoyed going camping, fishing, deer hunting and he loved raising a big garden.
He is preceded in death by a grandson, Sam Tanksley in 2011 and his parents, Luther Charles Tanksley Sr. and Helen Marteal Ricks Tanksley.
He is survived by his wife of 29 ½ years, Kathy Nelms Tanksley of Hamburg; two sons, Dwayne Tanksley of Judsonia and Kevin Tanksley and wife, Donna, of Hamburg; a daughter, Jessica Kelley and husband, Jon Paul, of Hamburg; a step-daughter, Vickie Holland and husband, Nick, of Fountain Hill; two brothers, Johnny Ray Tanksley of Parkdale and Robin Tanksley of Springdale; a sister, Helen Land of Montrose; nine grandchildren, DeeDee, Will, Harley, Emma, Aaron, Madison, Jozie, McKayla and Brooklynn and three great-grandchildren, Jayden, Little Sam and Maci.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Monday, July 18, 2016 at the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Terry Greenwood and Bro. Elvin McDill officiating. Burial will be in the Promise Land Cemetery. Pallbearers are Tommy Clark, Adam Tanksley, David Nelms, Roger Nelms, Ronnie Nelms and Mike Martin. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Mac Sullivan, Marvin Ricks and Frank Edward Ricks.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
